We are Christians
Our Mission Statement:
To glorify God by offering a Christian
community guided by the Word, led by the Holy Spirit, and
authenticated by our love for one another.
Our Vision:
We will invite people to respond to God’s call,
welcome them in Christ’s name, and quickly include them in our
common life as God’s people. We will serve, support and challenge
each other as we grow together in the knowledge and love of God.
Together we will worship God and be Christ’s witnesses and servants
in the world.
We are Welcoming
We are committed to creating opportunities so
that all feel welcome worshipping with us. We offer both a Celebration worship service and a
Classical worship service on Sunday mornings. See our
Worship page to find out more.
We believe that it is important for families to worship
together. We mean it when we say your children are welcome in our worship
service.
We recognize that it will be a challenge for some children to
sit through the entire service, so the following are offered. You are
invited to use them to the best advantage of your family.
-
The nursery and toddler room is provided for children infant
through three, and is available during both services and the education hour.
-
Cloth bags with activity pages and crayons are at the main
entrances to the sanctuary and can be picked up after the children's sermon.
We especially encourage families to participate
in the following ways:
Ø
Send your preschoolers through Senior
High Youth to Sunday School while you participate in an Adult Ed
program between services.
Ø
Take advantage of childcare during
Women’s Wednesday morning Bible Study.
Ø
Bring the whole family to Sunday
morning fellowship, the annual summer picnic, Easter Sunday pancake
breakfast, and much more!!!
We are dedicated to providing
educational opportunities that focus on the
unfolding Word of God, on living a life of discipleship, and on
determining God’s will for our lives. Join us for in-depth Bible
studies, small groups, lectures and seminars as we all learn
together.
We are also committed to serving the needs of
others through Outreach & Service
programs, such as our support of the Little Children of the
Philippines preschool, Mission at the Eastward in Maine, the
Salvation Army in Framingham, and the Neighbor to Neighbor program
in Sudbury.

The Disciple at the Presbyterian Church
in Sudbury
“If
you love me, you will obey what I command.”
(John 14:15)
Jesus
calls each of us to follow him.
In the New Testament, people who
did so were called disciples.
The Greek word means learner; in English, disciple is from
the same root as discipline.
As brothers and sisters in Christ, it is our duty to help one
another live out a life rich in faith as we seek God’s will for
our lives as individuals and as a body of believers.
Some perspectives on discipleship are below.
1
.
We are all disciples, serving in our own way.
Each of us, as believers in the
risen Christ, are called to be disciples.
This is not in addition to who we are as a Christian, but
rather it is the heart of who we are.
2
.
Discipleship is way of living each day, not a status to be
achieved. To be a
disciple is not to follow a list of rules; it is to follow Jesus on
a journey through all of life, learning
what it means,
day by day to set aside our own will as we strive to conform to the
will of God.
3
.
Discipleship is a commitment, often involving several
disciplines as part of a life-long journey of faith.
All are focused on developing the character of Christ
within ourselves. Some of the personal disciplines that a believer will embrace
as part of this journey are the following.
-
Worshipping
regularly;
-
Praying
and reading the Bible daily;
-
Being
a lifetime learner;
-
Tithing,
and being stretched by giving;
-
Being
involved in missions of mercy; and
-
Being
a witness for the gospel, and welcoming new persons to the
faith.
4
.
Discipleship is not solitary.
Although in our day, individualism is assumed and
exalted, the disciple’s journey cannot to be completed alone.
In the New Testament, disciples typically functioned in
groups, sharing responsibilities and blessings in accordance with
the gifting of each member. In
a similar fashion, we modern-day
disciples can work within the structure of our church to build the
body of Christ.
5
.
The world does not always welcome the disciple.
As a follower of Jesus, you may sometimes feel conspicuous
by your nonconformity with worldly values, and may be misunderstood
or even bluntly resisted for failing to abide by some of the norms
of popular culture. This
is all a part of the journey.
6
.
Discipleship is a privilege, a gift from our savior.
Following Jesus is the fulfillment of the highest of human
possibilities, and allows us to experience the abundance of life
Jesus promised. While the course of a disciple’s life is not always an easy
one, it is a life journey rich with blessings.
