On Sunday, January 29th, Dr. McIvor’s sermon is “Big House, Little House, Back House, Barn” based on Psalm 111.1-10. “Big house, little house, back house, barn” is a distinctive architectural design, common in New England. The style evolved so that “house work” and “farm work” could be done while remaining sheltered from winter weather. The design was both practical and visionary because it showed that what happened in the barn was connected to the kitchen, living room, or bedroom. Likewise, Psalm 111 demonstrates that God’s transcendence is connected to God’s immanence. God is big and God is small, the only kind of God worthy of the title.
